PROTECTING OUR AMERICAN ALLIGATOR
Living in Pine Ridge Estates you may see our fierce looking American Alligator who lives in freshwater marshes, rivers, swamps and yes, our lakes too. They enjoy baking by day and hunting by night things such as insects, small fish, frogs, turtles, small mammals, birds but can also take animals as large as deer. A majority of the time alligators leave freshwater habitats to travel overland during droughts, in search of mates, and to avoid confrontations with larger male alligators. Due to their size and reputation some may be inclined to file complaints of their presence due to general fear of the potential danger but rest assured it’s best to leave them alone in their natural habitat. In fact, according to FWC, the chances of being seriously injured due to an alligator attack is only 1 in 3.1 million. Please be aware that a request of removal of these gators does not end up in their favor. As these removals result in transfers to various crowded Alligator Farms, or used for meat and belly skin, which makes high-quality leather, in addition they may be held in captivity for doing live shows. Lastly, these innocent reptiles get killed through this process, very seldom do they get relocated to another natural habitat as less and less of our natural habitat is restored, further threatening other wildlife of extinction. Fundamentally, we encourage you to view these fascinating reptiles in their natural habitat keeping safety as your and our top priority.
Alligators May Live Here
The main recommendation is to…
Never feed them as this makes them bolder and encourages them to seek out people, it also alters their natural diet in an unhealthy way.
Do not make voluntary contact with them, or disturb them in any way.
We also recommend to not feed ducks, turtles or any other wild animals inhabiting waters with alligators since these food sources attracts them further and trains them to associate humans with food. Last but not least, we strongly recommend not to swim in any of our lakes as they very well might be occupied with our Great American Alligators.
Fundamentally, we encourage you to view these fascinating reptiles in their natural habitat keeping safety as your and our top priority.
